The Maker

Amy Taylor, Ceramic Artist

I am a New Smyrna Beach resident and ceramic artist living in Volusia County since 2000.  Ceramics came later in my life after time spent teaching and raising a family.  Once my children became teenagers, I was able to explore my lifelong interest in ceramics at Daytona State College.  It only took one semester to realize I wanted to make pottery every day. After some time independently studying and practicing, I joined the New Smyrna Beach Farmers Market in 2017. In 2023, I attended Accademia Riaci in Florence, Italy, for a four week course in ceramics where I was able to explore different clay and glaze techniques. Besides attending our local farmers market, I've participated in local art and community events like Coastal Christmas, Art Fiesta, DeLand Arts & Crafts, Central 28 Artisan Market, along with some time residing in The HUB Art Gallery of New Smyrna Beach.  You can also find selections of my pieces in The Galley Oil & Vinegar Shop on Canal Street in Downtown New Smyrna Beach.  The focus for my pieces is to be both pleasing to the eye and practical for daily use.  My pieces exhibit a minimalistic artistic functionality.  I believe in creating local, supporting local, and staying local.
